German lawmakers have approved the purchase of 131 armored fighting vehicles, days after the Defense Ministry said new heavy weaponry was needed due to a "change in the European security situation."

The 33-ton Boxer wheeled vehicles can be adapted to move infantry, carry light artillery or shoot down aircraft.
